Amritsar, June 25, 2014 : A “21-Day Refresher Course in Health & Life Sciences was concluded here today at Academic Staff College of the Guru Nanak Dev University.
Ajit Verma, Director General, Amity Institute of Microbial Technology, Amity University, Uttar Pradesh was the Chief Guest at the valedictory session. Prof. Verma in his valedictory address asked the young faculty members to focus on excellent research and teaching in their respective disciplines.
Enumerating the basic ingredients of an excellent teacher, he emphasised that the teacher must imbibe the values like dedication, devotion, integrity, impeccability in order to become the role model for the students and society at large.
While pursuing research, one should be fearless, confident and take healthy criticism in stride, he underlined. He concluded his address by asking the participants not to be distracted from their goal, which, undoubtedly, is excellent teaching and research.
Course Coordinator, Daljit Singh Arora, Department of Microbiology of the University outlined the contents of the course in brief. He also enlisted the names of renowned academicians, experts, scientists, who interacted with the participants during the course. He said that although the course has reached its logical conclusion, but the real voyage for the participants has actually commenced now.
Avinash Nagpal, Director, Academic Staff College introduced the Chief Guest to the audience. She labelled the teachers like an epitome of knowledge and exhorted the young teachers to persistently and continuously broaden their horizon. She expressed the hope that the teachers must have definitely augmented their existing knowledge during this course.
The participants of the course profusely thanked the Academic Staff College for this endeavor and expressed their deep satisfaction over the overall conduct of the course. Earlier Avinash Kaur Nagpal, Daljit Singh Arora and A.J.S. Bhanwer, Dean Faculty of Life Sciences accorded a floral welcome to the Chief Guest. In the end, the certificates were given away to the participants. A.J.S. Bhanwer formally proposed the vote of thanks.
