20000 hectare land to be brought under diversified agriculture in Kapurthala district

Kapurthala, July 17, 2013: Punjab Government government's is working on priority to save ground water and natural resources as 20000 hectare land would be brought under Basmati cultivation in the district. Disclosing this here today, Deputy Commissioner Kapurthala DS Mangat said that 25-25 Acre demonstration plants are selected for this and government would also providing other basic facilities for Basmati cultivation.

Mangat said that state agriculture department is laying special stress on to reduce the expenses on Agriculture production and making farmers aware  of new techniques which are being implemented to increase production with low cost.

He said that Punjab Government is providing Rs 3 lakh subsidy on automatic paddy planters.

Deputy Commissioner said that to encourage farmers to adopt alternative crops instead of paddy, agriculture has given good alternative as Maize cultivation. Government is providing 75% subsidy on Maize seed under PPP mode and this seed is available at block level agriculture offices.

Dr. Manohar Singh said that district Chief Agriculture Officer Farmers are showing lot of interest in Basmati cultivation. He added that department has also launched a campaign to train farmers about insect management.
