New Delhi, July 12 (IANS) Delhi Cabinet Ministers Raaj Kumar Anand and Gopal Rai visited the relief camps to review the relief efforts undertaken by the state government at various locations as the water level in the Yamuna river rose above the danger mark.

The Delhi government have initiated relief and rescue operations by establishing 2,700 centres and tents where 27,000 people took shelter.

On Tuesday, Delhi Development Minister Gopal Rai conducted an inspection of the relief camp situated near the Rajghat DTC Depot while Delhi Welfare Minister Raaj Kumar Anand reviewed the preparations of relief measures at the old Yamuna bridge near Shastri Park.

Anand said the Delhi government was prepared to deal with any situation and people are being shifted from submerged areas.

The people living in the flood-affected areas are being shifted to relief camps set up by the Arvind Kejriwal government.

Speaking to mediapersons, Rai said, “Heavy rainfall in northern India has resulted in a rapid surge in the water levels of the Yamuna. Additionally, a significant volume of water is continuously being released from the Hathinikund barrage, leading to the Yamuna water levels surpassing the danger mark in Delhi. However, the Kejriwal government is mobilising all necessary resources to address the imminent threats. The department has commenced the evacuation of individuals residing in lower regions of the Yamuna and transporting them to safer areas.”

Rai also added that 2,700 relief centres and tents had been established by the Delhi government for the relief and rescue operations, accommodating nearly 27,000 registered individuals. These centres span from the northern district of Palla to the southern district of South Delhi.
