Chandigarh, March 1, 2017: The Department of Philosophy, Panjab University(PU), Chandigarh is organizing two days International Symposium on Relativism, Absolutism and the Concept of Atman from 2nd to 3rd March, 2017. In this symposium apart from faculty members and Research Scholars of the Department, two distinguish scholars are coming and will deliver talks on the above theme and these include _ Prof.Michael Krausz, Milton C. Nahm Professor of Philosophy Department of Philosophy, Thomas Hall, Bryn Mawr College 101 No. Merion Avenue Bryn Mawr and Professor S.P.Gautam from Centre for Philosophy, School of Social Sciences, JNU, New Delhi.
The theme of the symposium is premised on two intellectual traditions of Philosophy. One relates with the concept of self and another with the concept of Atman. Indian Philosophy offers Atman centric approach to liberation and western philosophy offers socio-centric approach to liberation. Can there be possibility of meeting of these two traditions within philosophy?
