Jalandhar, October 16, 2017: Two day book exhibition in DAV College, Jalandhar has started on Monday. This Book Exhibition was inaugurated by the retired justice and Chairman of the Local Advisory Committee of the College, NK Sood. During this inauguration ceremony, Principal of the College Prof S K Arora and the entire staff of the library were present. This book exhibition will start from 11 am on Monday and will be held until 7 pm and next day (Tuesday) at 9 am to 4 pm. The highlight of the exhibition this time is that the common interest books have been given more attention. At the same time, biographical books of famous persons have also been given place. This time, big publishers like Cambridge and Oxford have also participated.
This exhibition includes books of great writers such as Mulkh Raj Anand, Dan Brown and Rabindranath Tagore. In this two-day exhibition by the college library, there are many more books that can attract you and draw your attention. Even before this, books have been exhibited many times from the college library. The history of the college library is very old. College library which is named as the Knowledge Center established from first day of establishment of college in memory of Lala Lajpat Rai. In the year 1918, library was established under the guidance of Prof. Fakir Chand.
The attendance at the college's library was enhancing the beauty of the college. At this time, the college library is built in ten thousand square feet where there is a separate section of each class. Researchers from foreign countries continue to visit the college library for their research work. The arrangement of students in the library is such that at one time five hundred students can read comfortably.
College library is the only library in the area to provide web based OPAC. The library has more than two lakh text and reference books on different topics. It has a large number of CDs, DVDs and multimedia. Not only this, there are many types of encyclopedia, ancient texts, manuscripts and rare collections of books and other books on Indian religion, culture, history and philosophy. Recently for readers e-processing lab has been added.
At the same time, Justice NK Sood, who arrived at the inauguration ceremony of the exhibition, lauded the work of the library saying that the knowledge of the students increased by the exhibition of books in the college. He said that various types of books are exhibited in the exhibition, thereby increasing the scope of thinking of students. With this, he appealed to the college administration to put such an exhibition in the future also.
On this occasion, Principal of the College Prof. SK Arora also saw the books put in the exhibition. He said that from the books put in the exhibition, students get an opportunity to read about different authors. He said that in order to make students aware about literature, the exhibition of books is a means of communication. At the same time, the college's librarian NK Sood said that the library was organised this type of exhibitions even before. He said that this time big publishers like Oxford and Cambridge are taking part. He also that this time books of general interest of students have also been included. He adeed that the students can buy books according to their own interests.
The college students also participated in this exhibition and looked very curious. During this time the students also bought books of their choice. On this occasion Dr. Sanjeev Dhawan, PRO Manish Khanna, Prof. Naveen Sood, Prof. Rajkumar Sharma Dr Sameer Sharma, Prof Asha Verma and from library staff,Arun Parashar, Sandhya Parmar, Ramchandra, and Narinder Khullar were present.
