17th Annual Sports Day Organised At DAVIET

Jalandhar, February 22, 2018: The 17th Annual Sports day of DAV Institute of Engineering and Technology was celebrated was great aplomb here today. The Chief Guest of the function was Mr.Jagdish Raj Raja, Mayor, Jalandhar. The annual Sports Day of the Institution aims to provide a platform to students to showcase their expertise in the sports arena.
Enthusiastic students, an energetic bhangra performance and edge to edge competition among sportspersons to outperform each other to win the prizes on offer—all this made the Annual Sports Day of DAVIET, a memorable event. The animated students stormed into the enclosures much before the spectacle could commence on the grand field.
The Chief Guest of the function Mr. Jagdish Raj Raja declared the meet open. Mr. Jaswinder Singh Dhillon, Sports President, DAVIET read out the report highlighting the achievements of sportspersons of the Institution
Dr. Manoj Kumar, Principal DAVIET , welcomed the Chief Guest to DAVIET Campus. He highlighted that it is through participation in games and sports that students can inculcate the much desired trait of being disciplined which is of utmost important if they want to make it big in life. Further he highlighted that it is physically fit students who are able to deliver well in academics as well. He also highlighted that the students who take active part in sports are life long learners. Highlighting the importance of interdisciplinary research, he shared that the ground work for it can be laid in the sports arena as students can forge friendships across branches and can work in collaboration later on. He urged upon the sportsmen to give their best to outperform each other and play in the true spirit of sportsmanship.
The Chief Guest of the function, Mr. Jagdish Raj Raja, stated that games and sports are an integral part of one’s life. He highlighted the fact that it is only mentally and physically fit citizens who can take the country forward. He emphasized that there is a positive change in the attitude of people towards sports in recent years and augers well for the future of the country in the sporting arena. He shared with all that it is sports which provides relief and a sense of relaxation in a life of monotony of routine marked by miseries, hardships and hurdles. He stated that students should be inspired by Saina Nehewal, Sania Mirza, Virendra Singh, Sushil Kumar as they are the new age sports icons who have brought laurels to the country.
Balloons were released and symbolic torch was lit which showcased the commitment of DAVIETians to give their best in every activity in the right spirit of sportsmanship to break newer grounds in diverse fields.
The arena thundered with applause as the day's events began with the march past. It was followed by other track and field events like 100 m, 200m, 400m, 800m, and 1500m, shot put, discuss throw, javelin throw, long jump, 4X100m, 4X400m relay race and Tug of War both in the category of men and women.
With spirits cooling down and physiques getting weary, the sports meet advanced towards its close with the Prize Distribution.
