10 killed, 70 injured in Nairobi twin blasts

Nairobi, May 16 (IANS) At least 10 people were killed and 70 injured in two explosions in the Kenyan capital city Friday, authorities said.

Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) confirmed the death toll, saying two people were killed on the spot, Xinhua reported.

"We have received eight bodies and 70 people with multiple injuries. We need blood. We wish to appeal to Kenyans to come and donate blood," a doctor said.

Nairobi police commander Benson Kibue said they are holding one suspect in connection with the twin blasts, one of which hit a 14-seater passenger vehicle while the other occurred inside the Gikomba market, Nairobi's biggest open air market.

The market is usually crowded on Fridays.

The attacks came after Western countries issued travel advisories this week, warning their citizens against visiting Kenya due to increased terror attacks in the East African nation.
