Anti-Narcotics Cell Ludhiana arrests a person identified as Ujagar Singh alias Jaggi, 50, resident of Parbhat Nagar, Ludhiana under the Excise Act.
Ludhiana, August 29, 2013: Anti-Narcotics Cell Ludhiana has arrested a person identified as Ujagar Singh alias Jaggi, 50, resident of Parbhat Nagar, Ludhiana under the Excise Act.
According to an official information, the accused was apprehended near Cheema Chowk during nakabandi held in the area.
Police have recovered 11 cartons of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) from the accused. The latter failed to show any licence/permit of the seized liquor to the former following which a case under the Excise Act was registered against him at Police Division No. 6.
The preliminary police investigations reveal that the accused was involved in the illegal trade of liquor for the last over 5 years and seven cases of liquor smuggling were already registered against him with different police stations in the city.
The police investigations further reveal that the accused used to buy liquor at a cheaper rate from the liquor vends located in the outer areas and sell it to customers in the retail at a higher price. With this modus operandi, the accused used to earn a huge profit, further said the official information.
