WHAT prompted Shatrughan Sinha to make statement against Modi?

BOLLYWOOD actor turned politician and BJP leader Shatrughan Sinha has sparked a controversy with the party with his recent statement that no one can become the NDA's prime ministerial candidate without the blessings of LK Advani. He has remarked that "there is many a slip between the cup and the lip".
These Shatrughan Sinha’s remarks have not only created a great controversy within BJP but also have given an open invitation to the Opposition to claim that there prevails a great indiscipline, resentment and difference of opinion within BJP. All this is going to weaken chances of BJP to come into power in the Centre after the parliamentary elections next year.
The remarks "there is many a slip between the cup and the lip", given by Shatrughan Sinha indicates a lot of things. He has tried to covey that LK Advani is above the party otherwise he would not have dared to say “no one can become the NDA's prime ministerial candidate without the blessings of LK Advani”.
Political observers strongly believe that the recent statement given by Sinha that, senior leaders like LK Advani, Jaswant Singh, Yashwant Sinha, MM Joshi and Sushma Swaraj have been ignored, is a step towards creating differences among the party leaders and weakening the Modi’s position. It cannot be predicted whether or not Sinha’s statement would weaken the Modi’s position but it is almost clear that he has attempted to harm the interests of his own party.
Of course we live in a democratic set up and everyone has the right of freedom of expression but, a political leader must not go against its party’s decisions. If one has difference of opinion there are many other platforms to express one’s opinion or feelings but not to comment publically in such a manner.
Meanwhile, there is a strong feeling BJP high command must find out as to what prompted Sinha to make such a statement in the media. There is a need to find out “forces” that prompted Sinha to give such a statement openly in the media, which made the party senior leadership defensive.
Meanwhile, Rajat Kumar Mohindru from Jalandhar said;
The Sinha’s statement has made it clear that there prevails indiscipline in the BJP. People and the party men are witnessing change in the behaviour of certain senior party leaders after the appointment of Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi as the party’s Poll Campaign Committee chairman.
BJP is considered a disciplined party. But, whatever has been after the Modi’s appointment as Poll Campaign Committee chairman is a matter of seriousness. What kind of message a few senior leaders of the BJP want to give to those young leaders who are willing in the front row. In case some senior party leaders think that they are being ignored in the party then the party as being claimed by Sinha then the party high command must intervene and “adjust” these “ignored” party “senior” leaders. Interestingly, had a ground level worker expressed his views like Sinha he would have been shunted out from the party so far on the plea of creating indiscipline in the party. However, it is clear that it will not happen in case of Sinha.
There is a strong feeling within BJP Cadre that time has arrived when all the appointments should be done completely on merit basis. Experience of the partymen should also be kept in mind at the time of these appointments. “Obligatory” appointments should not be encouraged in the larger interest of the party.  Senior party leaders should be given due respect in the party by the new entrants.
