Requests the minister to resume regular daily flights between New Delhi and Ludhiana
Ludhiana, July 24, 2015: Congress MP from Ludhiana Mr Ravneet Singh Bittu has written to Mr Ashok Gajapathi Raju Pusapati, Union Minister for Civil Aviation, requesting him to resume regular daily flights between New Delhi and Ludhiana. In a statement here today, mr Bittu said, “The Minister has responded positively to the request and has agreed to convene a high level meeting of senior officials within few days to discuss this important issue”.
Mr Bittu handed over a request letter to the minister, which treads as under: “With reference to my earlier letter dated 28.06.2014, May I have the privilege to again draw the kind attention of Your Honour towards Ludhiana, a city known as an industrial capital of Punjab. A city with thousands of Medium and Small Scale Industries is actually an industrial hub in North India.
But despite the fact that the industry has grown leaps and bounds in this illustrious city, there still remain numerous shortcomings with respect to flight connectivity with other cities. It is ironic that a city which as per World Bank (WB) report titled "Doing Business in India 2009" states that Ludhiana is the most adept place to carry out business transactions, does not even have a direct flight connectivity with National Capital.
Sir, till last year only a single flight on Sunday, Monday and Wednesday was serving the people of Ludhiana. Though the required equipments/infrastructure to run more flights has been installed/created at the Sahnewal Airport in last few years, instead of adding more flights the Air India has discontinued its services, for reasons best known to the airline.
In view of the above mentioned facts, I seek the kind intervention of Your Honour so that regular daily to and fro flight preferably in the morning at 11:30AM from New Delhi to the Sahnewal Airport (Ludhiana) is started, in public interest.”
