Chandigarh, December 26, 2017: Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh was bereaved on Tuesday, when his maternal aunt (Mami ji) Sardarni Gurcharan Kaur passed away after protracted illness.
Sardarni Gurcharan Kaur (98) was the only daughter of Sardar Sewa Singh Thikriwala, the pioneer of Praja Mandal movement in the princely state of Patiala. She was married to Late S. Wazir Singh Jeji and is survived by five sons and two daughters.
According to her son Captain Amarjeet Singh Jeji, she breathed her last at the residence of her daughter here in Sector 28 at 10:30 this morning. She was cremated this afternoon in Patiala, where Deputy Commissioner Patiala, Kumar Amit, laid the wreath on her body on behalf of Chief Minister as a mark of respect.
Captain Amarinder consoled his aunt’s death and prayed for eternal peace for the departed soul.
Bhog and Antim Ardas in the memory of Sardarni Gurcharan Kaur would be held at Gurdwara Singh Sabha near Fountain Chowk in Patiala from 12:30 PM to 1:30 PM on the Saturday December 30, 2017.
