“World Sight Day” observed by department of ophthalmology (eye), DMCH

Ludhiana, October 11, 2019: “World Sight Day” was observed by Department of Ophthalmology (Eye), DMCH on 10th October, by conducting awareness talk and poster making competition in Eye OPD Block. The theme of “World Sight Day” this year was “Vision First”. Secretary of DMCH Managing Society-Sh Prem Kumar Gupta was invited as the chief guest and he graced the occasion. According to Dr. Sumeet Chopra, Professor & Head of Ophthalmology (Eye) World Sight Day (WSD) is celebrated on second Thursday of month of October and this year its being celebrated on 10th October. The main purpose of this day to create awareness regarding blindness and vision impairment among the public . Dr Chopra said that more than a billion people (globally) cannot see well, because they don’t have access to glasses. Dr Sandeep Puri, Principal addressed the gathering of dignitaries and patients present on the occasion. In his address, Dr Puri said that if any person having any kind of eye problem he/she should have consult to experienced doctor for the treatment. Dr puri further highlighted that DMCH has been regularly conducting Health awareness sessions and eye camps inside and outside the hospital premises for the general public. Dr. Rajoo Singh Chinna, Dean Academics said that DMCH is well equipped with all the latest machines for Advanced Cataract Surgery, Vitreo-retinal Surgeries, Squint Surgery, RETCAM for Retinopathy of Prematurity and Corneal Transplantations. A poster making competition was also held by the B Sc Nursing students and winners were given prizes by the dignitaries present on the occasion. Various eye health exercise were also demonstrated by the nursing students like blinking , palming, figure of eight and regular eye check-ups.
