Chandigarh, March 25, 2019: Department of Zoology, Centre for Advance studies (UGC), Panjab University, Chandigarh will hold a two day National Conference, Zoocon-2019, as a part of outreach effort in relation to “ Biodiversity for Human Health and Social Welfare: Current Challenges and Achievables” on 26th-27th March, 2019. The sponsoring authority of conference is UGC-CAS II and DST-Purse. The occasion will be graced by Professor ShankarjiJha,Dean University Instructions, Panjab University, Chandigarh and other distinguished guests across the country. Dr. A.K. Singh, Director General, Life Sciences, DRDO, Ministry of Defence, Govt. of India and Dr. R.K. Manchanda, Director General, Central Council for Research in Homeopathy, New Delhi, will be the Chief Guests of the symposium in the succeeding days. The Keynote address will be delivered by Prof. R.N.K. Bamezai, Former Vice- Chancellor, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University, Katra, Jammu and Kashmir
ZOOCON-2019 would include five technical sessions, preceded by an inaugural session, with main focus on finding real world solutions for linking biodiversity with human health and well being. The multidimensional event would incorporate technical presentations and talks by the renowned speakers and researchers from academia and industry. The conference will also involve oral/poster presentation session on biodiversity for Human health and societal welfare to share information and stimulate discussion among the participants.
G.P. Sharma Oration Award Ceremony will also be held on day 1 of the conference. The award is conferred every year by the Department of Zoology, P.U. to a renowned Cytogeneticist. The oration will be delivered by Prof. SarojGhaskadbi, Department of Zoology, SavitribaiPhle Pune University. She will share her inventive vision with the audience on the topic “Oxidative damage and its Relevance to Diabetes”.
Other invited speakers embraced in the conference are Dr.Shailja Singh, Special Centre for Molecular Medicine, JNU, New Delhi, Dr.SurendraGhaskadbi, Emeritus Scientist (CSIR), MACS-Agharkar Research Institute, Pune, Prof. Shyam Sharma, National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research, Mohali, Prof. Kanwaljit Chopra, UIPS, Panjab University Chandigarh and Prof. AkshayAnand, Department of Neurology, PGIMER, Chandigarh.
The conference will be concluded by a valedictory function. The valedictory address will be delivered by Dr. R.K. Manchanda, Director General, Central Council for Research in Homeopathy, New Delhi, and prize distribution for best oral and poster presentation will be given to the participant and distinguished guests will also be felicitated.
