Ludhiana: To celebrate World Blood Donor Day and commemorate the birth of Dr.Karl Landsteiner, Department Of Transfusion Medicine, Christian Medical College (CMC) Ludhiana held a donor felicitation ceremony in the Blood Bank on Tuesday.
Speaking on the occasion Dr.Abraham Thomas Director CMC Ludhiana enlightened the gathered donors regarding the theme of this year’s World Blood Donor Day – “Blood Connects Us All” and dedicated the event to voluntary blood donors. Furthering his message Dr.William Bhatti, Medical Superintendent informed everyone that voluntary non remunerated blood donations form the backbone of safe blood supply for the patients in need and asked a first time donor to cut the cake.
Dr. Rupinder Kaur, Professor and Head Department Of Transfusion Medicine, appreciated the gradual increase in awareness related to blood donation amongst today’s youth and emphasized that blood donation by even 1% of the Indian population can meet the most basic requirements for blood.
Dr. Aikaj Jindal and Dr. Puneet Kaur, Assistant Professors, Department of Transfusion Medicine thanked the donors for their dedication and hoped that India shall soon achieve the 100% voluntary blood donation benchmark."
