World Health Day observed at DMCH

Ludhiana, April 7, 2018: World Health Day was observed in DMCH by organizing awareness programme on ‘Autism’ by Department of Physiotherapy & Rehabilitation.

Department of Physiotheraphy & Rehabilitation in association with All India Occupational Therapists Association (Punjab & Chandigarh Branch) organized the programme.

Dr Avkash Teotia (In-charge, Physiotheraphy Department) said the term ‘autism’ is a complex neurobehavioral condition that includes problems to learn social interaction, language and communication skills combined with rigid, repetitive behaviors. Physiotherapy plays a pivotal role in the overall well-being of person suffering from autism, said Dr Teotia.

The programme began with awareness talk on ‘Autism’ by Dr Puneet Aulakh Pooni (Professor & Head of Pediatrics). Dr Raju Sharma (Professor & Head, LKC College of Phsyiotheraphy, Jalandhar) spoke on ‘Role of Physiotheraphy in Autism’ followed by lecture on ‘Role of Occupational Therapy’ by Aditya Kumar from ESIC Model Hospital, Ludhiana)

The function got concluded with a prize distribution ceremony, which was presided by members of DMCH Managing society-Sh Gian Chand Dhawan and Sh Balraj along with Principal Dr Sandeep Puri. They lauded the effective role of Department of Physiotherapy & Rehabilitation in organizing this function. Posters were also made by students focusing on the problem of ‘autism’ The dignitaries also released ‘Information Brochures’ on Autism during the prize-distribution function.
