World Environment Day Celebrated In Ludhiana

Ludhiana, June 6, 2018: The Institution of Engineers (India), Ludhiana Local chapter in association with CT University, Ludhiana celebrated the World Environment Day today.
The theme of the event this year was Beat the Plastic Pollution. Welcoming the guests, Er.S.S.Grewal, Director, Student Affairs, CT University said that Plastic pollution has reached alarming levels and needs to be controlled.
Dr.Harsh Sadawarti, Pro Vice Chancellor, CT University said that such awareness programs were a regular feature in the university. He said that the university would be collaborating with The Institution of Engineers(India) for purpose of knowledge sharing.
In his inaugural address, Brig. Mastinder Singh, SM, Chairman, IE(I), Ludhiana Local centre said that plastics have slowly made deep inroads into our daily lives. Handling plastic waste is a big problem.
The expert lecture was delivered by Dr. Arvind Dhingra, Faculty from GNDEC, Ludhiana. He cited facts and figures to support the statement that plastics are being produced and consumed recklessly. He brought out that we generate so much plastic waste that it can circumvent our Earth 4 times. He gave out practical suggestions as to carrying cloth bag while going for shopping, carrying your own mug to work place etc. He said that if we cannot Re-use it, we should refuse it. He ended his session exhorting participants to pledge to reduce plastic usage to make earth a better place.
A symbolic tree plantation drive was also undertaken. The trees planted by guests were adopted by faculty of CT university who have taken responsibility for monitoring the growth of the trees.
