Workshop on mathematical and statistical tools and software

Jalandhar, November 6, 2019: Kanya Maha Vidyalaya, Jalandhar’s PG Department of Mathematics organised a one day workshop on “Mathematical and Statistical Tools and Software”. Professor Rajeev Kumar (HOD, Department of Mathematics) from Maharishi Dayanand University, Rohtak was the resource person for the workshop. Principal Prof.(Dr.) Atima Sharma Dwivedi inaugurated the workshop by welcoming the esteemed guest. Prof. Rajeev commenced his lecture by showing his gratitude for great Indian Mathematicians Aryabhata and Ramanujan. He emphasised on Applications of Mathematics in real life and in all other subjects like Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Medical science and Computers etc. He also elaborated on all the concepts with the help of daily life examples such as Geometry in Pyramids, in Taj Mahal, in Eiffel Tower & in aeroplanes etc. In post lunch session, Prof. Rajeev focused on Applications of Statistics and Statistical Tools & elaborated by conveying that Statistics is a science of decision making and Data Analysis & it also holds a very important place in medical science. Then he correlated the statistical tools with mathematical software and statistical software. He emphasized that at present ‘MATLab’, ‘Mathematica’, ‘SPSS’ and ‘R’ are very important software for solving all mathematical and statistical problems. Principal Prof.(Dr.) Atima Sharma Dwivedi lauded the efforts of Mrs. Veena Deepak (HOD, Department of Mathematics) and faculty of Department of Mathematics for organizing such meaningful workshop on innovative and latest trends in Mathematics. She averred that Mathematics plays a very important role in all fields of life. It is very important for the students to excel in the field of mathematics in order to get success in today’s competitive world.
