Chandigarh, November 19, 2018: A week long national workshop on “Continuum Mechanics: Principles and Applications” from November 19-24, 2018 was inaugurated today at the Department of Mathematics, Panjab University Chandigarh by Prof.Raj Kumar, Vice-Chancellor, PU.
PU VC in his address, shared his experiences about mathematics and motivated the participants towards the importance of this subject in every field of research.
Prof.Ramesh Chander, a retired Professor from IIT Roorkee was the chief guest, who emphasized the application of mathematics in various fields of sciences. He made a clear cut explanation of mathematics through continuum mechanics in the field of seismology.
Prof. Gurmeet Kaur, Chairperson talked about the department. Prof. S K Tomar told that the main aim of the workshop is to train the new buddies in the field of Continuum mechanics being one of the important branches of Mathematics, which has wide applications in the field of Engineering and Technology.
Eminent speakers, namely, Professor Peeyush Chandra (IIT Kanpur), Prof. A K Nandkumaran (IISc, Bangalore), Prof. P G Siddheshwar (Bangalore University) and Prof. M D Sharma (K U Kurukshetra) will be lecturing on different issues of Continuum mechanics.
This workshop is fully sponsored by National Center of Mathematics (a joint venture of IIT Bombay and TIFR Mumbai). Around 50 participants across nation are attending this workshop. Dr. Dilbag Singh a UGC-Assistant Professor is the convener of this workshop.
