Work on stretches of NH-1 falls in Punjab initiated
Chandigarh, December 18, 2014: The commuters from Punjab would enjoy the smooth and bumpy less ride to and fro from New Delhi to Amritsar as the National Highway Authority has initiated the construction work on the main chunks of this NH falling in Punjab. This 470 km of National Highway-1, which is considered as the backbone of Punjab trade and industry would be completed by May 15 next year.
Disclosing this here today an official spokesperson of the Punjab Government said that Punjab State has been urging National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) since long to accelerate the construction on the National Highway network in the state, which was hampered by several bottlenecks. He said that now the situation has become agreeable and acceding to the demands of the Punjab State, The National Highway Authority of India has started construction work on the Dera Bassi flyover. The estimated cost on this flyover would be Rs. 130 crore, similarly work on the six km stretch of Ludhiana-Ferozpur road has also been started. The spokesperson said that the remaining 6 km stretch between Ludhiana-Chandigarh would also be completed by February 15 next year. He said that the NHAI has also initiated work on the 20 km stretch of NH-1 from Bidhipur Railway crossing to Dhilwan and Amritsar-Pathankot National Highway.
The spokesperson further said that National Authority has assured the Punjab State that the much awaited four-laning work of the Ludhiana-Moga-Ferozepur National Highway, which had been abandoned by a private construction company would soon be initiated as the company has now agreed to restore the work.
“Under National Highways Development Project (NDDP) the major 4-laning projects in the state worth Rs. 1314 crore have been completed” he added. Divulging the details of such projects he said that 4-laning of 44.600 km of Kurali-Kiratpur Sahib has been completed with the cost of Rs. 309 crore. 4- laning of 44 km long Bhogpur-Mukerian Section has been completed in December, 2013 with the cost of Rs. 300 crore. Similarly 4- laning of 102.420 km of Pathankot-Amritsar road has been completed in November, 2014 with the cost of Rs. 705 core. He said that in total Rs. 1314 crore has been incurred on these major 4-laning projects.
