DC exhorts principals of government and private schools to come forward and join the fight against drug abuse

Ferozepur, May 29, 2019: Deputy Commissioner Mr. Chander Gaind on Wednesday said that the district administration will leave no stone unturned to make Ferozepur a drug-free district by eliminating the menace completely.

Mr Gaind was addressing the principals of 479 government schools and private schools and heads of Buddy project in Dev Samaj College.

He said that Ferozepur will set an example in wiping out the menace with the cooperation of all parts of the society and others will follow the model adopted by Ferozepur.

Deputy Commissioner said that the vulnerable age-groups will be specially focused and made aware regarding drug-abuse so that they can be saved.

He said that the parents, teachers, and buddies have a great responsibility on their shoulders to keep a close vigil on the routine of their wards regularly. If any kind of change in the behaviour of students was detected, immideatly commence an individual counselling, he said. The deputy commissioner said that those, who are still away from the clutches of drug abuse can be saved through constant awareness about ill-effects of the drugs.

He told that during the assembly period in all schools, a short film against drug menace will be shown in each school of the district following which a brief discussion with the students on this issue will be held at school under the supervision of respective principles.

Mr. Gaind informed that the drug-dependants are being treated in drug de-addiction centers and OOAT centers. He called upon people not to treat drug dependants persons as anti-social elements rather consider them patients and victims and offer them a helping hand by admitting them in the government's drug de-addiction centers.

He exhorted those, whose family members are stranded in the drug menace to come forward and admit their dear ones immediately to de-addiction centers and in OAAT center so they can be brought back to the mainstream once again.

Mr Gaind added that he himself will visit all 697 villages of the district by choosing most drug-affected villages in the first phase. While his visit to these villages, he will discuss this problem openly with the villagers and exhort them to speak openly against drug suppliers. He further directed police officials to take prompt action on the tip received from DAPO working on the ground level in the villages.

On the occasion, ADC Mr Ravinder Singh, Assistant Commissioner Mr Ranjit Singh, SDMs Mr Amit Gupta, Mr Narinder Singh, DSP Mr Sukhwinder Singh and others were present.
