The WFSA is the foremost global alliance of anesthesiologists and through a federation of 135 Member Societies unites anesthesiologists from 145 countries around the world to improve patient care and access to safe anesthesia.

Anesthesiology is the practice of medicine dedicated to the total care of the patient before, during and after surgery. Anesthesiologists are also experts in resuscitation, pain management and intensive care.

A 11% of the global burden of disease could be treated by surgery. 85% of children in lower income countries are lively to have required surgical treatment by the time they are 15 years old. Around 5 billion people worldwide lack access to affordable surgical and anesthetic care when they need it, most of these are in lower income countries. With more than 230 million major surgeries occurring annually around the world, the stakes are high.

Most of the Anaesthesiologists practice in urban areas. The city of Hyderabad has just 680 anaessthesiologists.

Anaesthetics is the medical speciality concerned with the total perioperative care of patients before, during and after surgery. They are the most required specialists. The city with one crore popukation just has 680 specialists. There is one Anaesthesiologist for 1.5 lakh population. Ideally, it shoukd have been one for fifty thousand population, informed Dr. Sunil Pandya.

More and more mothers die during pregnancies because of high hyper tension, uncontrolled bleeding and infections. Obstetric Anaesthesiologists are well trained to handle such situations. They can reduce mortality in

patients, who undergo surgery by providing perioperative support, informed Dr Raja Narsing Rao.

Patients never die of overdose of Anaesthesia. it is a myth said Dr. Sunil Pandya.

Hyderabad is the only cuty in India has Obstetrics Anaesthesia Training facility at Fernandes Hospital he added.

Obstetrics is the unoredictable specialisation. 70 per ceny Obstetrics Surgeries are emergencies informed Dr Pandya.

We at GVK realised tgat Pregnancy is the number one emergency. Trauma comes next, shared Dr Raja Narsing Rao. We have so far handled five lakh deliveries in our ambulances. These deliveries are called as assisted deliveries, he explained.

Addressing the gathering Dr GV Ramana Rao said for us GVK EMRI. is the temple of learning. Emergency medicine evolved in India in this city only. We at GVK EMRI address 22000 emergency cases every day, of which 33% are pregnancy related cases. Saving lives is our business. Skills save lives. But, unfortunately, jyst 12 per cent of the professionals possess life saving skills. You be the change agents, Dr Ramana Rao told the participating doctors.

Telangana state is doing well on all the fronts of healthcare execpt growing number of avoidable Cesarian Births. Cesarian births are griwing in numbers which is pointing accusing fingers at us. And it is a cause of concsrn and you Anaesthesologists must look at this issue very seriously, Dr Ramana Rao told them.
