Weeklong faculty development programme successfully concludes at KMV

Jalandhar: Kanya Maha Vidyalaya successfully concluded the One Week Faculty Development Program on Capacity Building and Enhancement in Higher Education under DBT Star College Scheme. The inaugural session of the last day was addressed by       Dr.Venu Gopal, Professor, Department of Condensed Matter Physics and Material Science, Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, Mumbai. The topic of his talk was Course Preparation: Designing, Delivery and Assessment. During the talk, he elaborated various strategies to formulate course and deliver which includes  to begin early, defining goals, determining course content, developing teaching methods and tools, determining how to evaluate student learning: to plan assignment and exams, to select texts and other materials judiciously. He stressed on the fact that we should be aware of level of knowledge the students acquire before starting your lecture. He put emphasis on teaching using chalk and board instead of Power point. He asked to repeat the last topic in just 5 minutes in the current class to revitalize the memory of the students. 
The second session of the day was delivered by Dr Nikhil Kumar, Education Officer, UGC, New Delhi. The topic of his talk was Institutional Capacity Building, Academic Research and Research Informed Teaching Practices in Higher Education. During his talk, he shared his deep insights into the topic and highlighted the need for academic excellence with focus on application oriented goals and employment generation. He also elaborated on alternate sources to attain leadership strategies. For this, he gave examples of SWAYAM, ARPIT, Google Classrooms etc. He also discussed a number of funding options including WHO, UNESCO, UGC,DST, ICMR etc. He said that mapping of your work with appropriate research funding agency is more important to get the funds sanctioned. Moreover, Fund Participatory Action Research can be followed by colleges with local bodies. He made the participants aware about Earn While Learn process. He also described different components of Research Informed Teaching (RIT). 
During the Valedictory session, Principal Prof. (Dr.) Atima Sharma Dwivedi averred that KMV in its pursuit to excellence believe in doing best to enhance quality education. She further emphasized that we need to have self-confidence, self-esteem to be the nation builders and it is the duty of every teacher to always strive to learn more and more. She further maintained that a teacher should be modern as well as traditionalist in its approach. It is the duty of a teacher to imbibe the noble values in his student as only a good student can become a good citizen of the nation. She congratulated the organizing committee for the successful organization of this One Week FDP. Madam Principal also acknowledged the participants for their enthusiasm and active participation during the entire Faculty Development Programme. A formal Vote of Thanks was presented by Mrs. Sadhna Tandon, Head, Department of Zoology.
