Ludhiana, May 13, 2018: International Nurses Day is an international day celebrated around the world on 12 May (the anniversary of Florence Nightingale's birth) of each year, to mark the contributions nurses make to society. Florence Nightingale (the foundational philosopher of the modern nursing) was born on 12th of May in 1820. Organised annually by the International Council of Nurses, International Nurses Day celebrates the contribution that nurses make to societies around the world. The date has a very strong significance, being the birthday of perhaps the world’s most famous nurse, Florence Nightingale.

Students, Management of Nightingale Nursing College Narangwal, Ludhiana celebrated International Nurses Day (6 May to 12 May) with a slogan of “Nurses: A Voice to Lead, Health is a human right”.

The college celebrated International Nurses Day with full enthusiasm under the guidance of Dr Sarabjeet Singh MD of institution, Dr G K Walia Principal, Sadik Ali Vice Principal, Sumir and Lavpreet Kaur. Rangoli, Poster Making Competition, Debate on Nursing and cultural programme and Cake Cutting was held at Nightingale Nursing College. Dr Saroj Aggarwal, Gynecologist & Secretary, IMA, Ludhiana was the Chief Guest and Dr Harpal Singh MD was the Guest of Honour at this moment. Prizes were given to the winning students of these competitions.

During weeklong celebration, the students were apprised about the importance of International Nurses Day. At the concluding function, speakers said the day, in-fact, raise awareness of the fact that access to health is not a given in every part of the world, and that nurses are key to achieving access. Despite the many treaties and conventions promoting the right to health, pervasive inequalities still constitute barriers to individual health.
