Week-long NSS camp concludes at Nauni varsity

'Not me but you'- with this thought the annual seven-day National Service Scheme (NSS) of the Dr YS Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry, Nauni concluded here at Government Senior Secondary School, Shamrod today. The camp was attended by 160 students of B Sc Horticulture and B Sc Forestry programmes.

Dr HC Sharma, Vice Chancellor of the university was the Chief Guest for the valedictory function of the camp. In his address to the students, he lauded the work done by the volunteers and explained the importance of the NSS programme and its ethos.

Dr Sharma said that the camp provided an excellent opportunity to young graduates to contribute towards the society and learn the essentials of teamwork along with time for introspection.

While expressing gratitude towards the volunteers and the students, Baldev Singh Thakur, Pradhan of the Nauni Panchayat explained how the work undertaken by the NSS volunteers of the university had helped the panchayat to recharge groundwater and reclaim the land lost to erosion.

The NSS camp was a part of the social outreach activity of the university. During the camp, students took part in a variety of social activities at Nauni gram panchayat, under which the University campus also falls. The volunteers assisted the panchayat workers in the construction of check dams to prevent soil erosion. They also undertook cleanliness and weeding drive at public parks and village pathways and carried out plantation activities in the nearby area. The students also decorated the playground sitting area of GSSS Shamrod through wall painting depicting various social messages.

The Student Welfare Officer Dr SK Gupta, Programme Officers Dr Tara Gupta, Dr Rashmi Chaudhary and Dr Chandresh Guleria, Narender Sharma, Principal of GSSS Shamrod along with its teachers attended the programme.
