WCK- 2012: India and Canada register impressive victories

Sangrur/Chandigarh, December 6, 2012: Four league matches were played at the War Hero Stadium of Sangrur in which India and Canada registered impressive victories over their opponents whereas Canada outclassed New Zealand. Two women league matches were also played in which India thrushed Denmark by 60—17 points and USA registered victory over Turkmenistan by a margin of 44-27 points.

Sukhbir Singh Badal, Deputy Chief Minister Punjab came down to see the matches as a Chief Guest whereas Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa, Member Parliament formally inaugurate the first match of the day by having introduction with the teams of Canada and New Zealand. Parminder Singh Dhindsa, Finance Minister Punjab and Sikander Singh Maluka, Education Minister were also participated in the event as guest of Honours.

The first match was played between the teams of Canada and New Zealand in which Canada defeated New Zealand by 62-31 points. At the end of the half time Canada team was leading by a margin of 32-19 points. Canada’s raiders Laddi Parasrampur, Ravi Sarai and Tejinder Singh Terry Purewal scored 10, 7 and 6 points respectively whereas its stoppers Daljinder and Sere Malleana got 5 points each. New Zealand’s raider Manjot Singh and Dilawar Singh got 6 & 5 points respectively whereas stopper Sukha Raju clinched 5 points.

In women’s category first battle was between the India and Denmark which was inaugurated by Mr. Sukhbir Singh Badal, Deputy Chief Minister by having introduction with the players. Mr. Parminder Singh Dhindsa was accompanying Deputy Chief Minister. The match was easily won by the Indian women Kabaddi team by an impressive margin of 60-17 points. At the end of first half India team was leading by a margin of 39-5 points. India’s raiders Priyanka and Kulwinder Kaur scored 6 points each whereas Sukhwinder Kaur got 5 points. India’s stoppers Anu Rani, Jatinder Kaur, Mandeep Kaur and Mukhdi were successful in getting 7, 6, 4 & 4 points respectively.

The 3rd match of the day was between women Kabaddi teams of America and Turkmenistan in which America won the match by a margin of 44-27 points. At the end of first half America team was leading with the difference of 21-16 points. American raiders Liana scored 14 whereas Guramrit Kaur scored 13 points. American stoppers Meena Devi & Nathalia got 6 and 4 points respectively. Turkmenistan raider Adureva and Kuzmina scored 7 and 6 points respectively whereas its stoppers Lavova and Ovazova scored 4 and 2 points, respectively.

The last match of the day was played between host Indian men Kabaddi team and Afghanistan. India outshined Afghanistan by a margin of 73-24 points. At the end of first half Indian team was leading by 37-11 points. Indian raiders Gurwinder Singh Kahlwan, Malwinder Singh and Ekam Hathor scored 8, 7 and 7 points respectively whereas other raiders Manminder Sra, Sukhbir Singh Sarawan, Sukhi Lakhanke Padha and Gurlal Ghanour scored 5, 5, 4 and 3 points, respectively. India’s stoppers Gopi Manki, Yad Kotli, Ekam Hathor and Pala Jalalpur got 4 points each. Indian players gave all round performances. Some of the players performed the role of raiders as well as stoppers. Afghanistan’s raiders Saifullaha Ahmani, Abdul Karim and Nasir Ahmed scored 7, 4 & 3 points respectively whereas stoppers Sakhizada got 1 point only.

Prominent amongst others who were present on the occasion included Parkash Chand Garg and Balbir Singh Ghunas (both CPS), Mr. Iqbal Singh Jhunda, MLA, Gobind Singh Longowal, Former Minister, Darbara Singh Guru, In Charge Bhadour Constituency, Paramjit Singh Sidhwan, Akali leader, Rajinder Singh Kanjala, Kumar Rahul, Deputy Commissioner, Paramjit Singh Gill, IG and Harcharan Singh Bhullar, SSP.
