Chandigarh, March 22, 2019: On the 3rd day of the PU NSS camp, volunteers were taught self defence (Japanese Martial art). Swayam group instructors Ms Balvinder Kaur, Ms Pooja and Mr.Sanjay Malik not only demonstrated necessary defence techniques but also instructed the volunteers about various weak points which can be aimed at when cornered by an assailant. Lecture on environmental issues of hill tourism by Dr.Vishal Nehria, Vice President, Himalaya Parivar was also organized. He has been active in solid waste management through Green Friends Organisation founded in 2008 and encouraged students to contribute towards environment sustainability by participating in various activities of Waste Warriors a non profit organisation.
All NSS volunteers were advised to plant two trees every year on two occasions, one during monsoon season and another during their respective birthdays. He stressed upon four aspects of waste management like Reduce,Reuse,Recycle and Refuse.
During an interactive session, Mr. Sucha Singh, NSS Programme Officer, answered queries of volunteers relating to changing landscape of Chandigarh City.
The day concluded with a myth bursting talk by Mr. Punit Arora, an environmental activist who enthralled and enlightened the audience with his discussions on heathy eating habits, importance of fasting and autophagy.
