Dr Jayanthi Kumaresh is India’s torch bearer worldwide for Saraswati Veena, the National Instrument of India. An artist, collaborator, composer, researcher, creator, pioneer, and educator – Dr Jayanthi’s life achievements over 30 years, truly embodies the rich musical heritage of India – making her one of the legendary Veena masters that India has ever produced. A sixth-generation musician, she began playing the Veena since the age of 3 and is one of the youngest veena artistes to receive the A-TOP grading, the highest from All India Radio.
R. Kumaresh has 40 plus years of the concert experience and is internationally renowned both as a soloist and for his duets with his brother, Ganesh Rajagopalan. Vidwan R. Kumaresh is called as Filling Monk, an icon of Carnatic Music, a child prodigy, violin virtuoso and divine composer has been captivating people with his music for the last four decades.
Both the wife and husband troupe entertained the music lover non-stop for one and half.
Their jugalbandi was followed by Pandit Ulhas N Kashalkar is a Hindustani classical vocalist. He has previously received training in the Gwalior, Jaipur and Agra gharanas, and is considered a representative of all three schools. A program executive with All India Radio turned teacher at the ITC Sangeet Research Academy, he possesses the ability to switch between three styles (namely Gwalior, Jaipur and Agra), at times even in the course of a single performance. He adheres to the aesthetic contours of each style, and also to the formal demands of the raga being presented. He is noted for his authentic presentations of obscure traditional ragas.
Ulhas is a fabulous vocalist. Like a computer, he never erred in any raga or composition howsoever intertwined or tricky it may be. He just seems to press one key and outcomes a raga in the true Jaipur colours, another to obtain a melody attired in the Agra style and still another to get a raga in the Gwalior habiliments. One can only imagine Kashalkar's questionless loyalty to his various gurus, and his prodigious capacity to assimilate and consolidate the incoming knowledge
Three organizations—Vivid Arts & Entertainment, Surmandal and the Pioneer Arts Education Society together brought the event together.
