VLCC launches its annual public awareness campaign against obesity on Anti Obesity Day

Book titled “Body mass index and fat percentage-A Paradox” released 
Ludhiana, November 26, 2014: On the occasion of Anti Obesity Day, premier wellness brand VLCC launched its annual public awareness campaign against obesity .The campaign is aimed to encouraging people to log on to www.orangepledge.com to pledge against obesity. This was launched globally across the sixteen countries.
Dr N.K.Aggarwal a renowned orthopaedician was invited at VLCC to launch a book titled `Body mass index and fat percentage- A Paradox”’. This book gives a brief idea about how to fight against obesity. Thirteen years ago on 26th November, VLCC took the first step to put up a united fight against obesity. It has gained a momentum as a public health campaign.
On this occasion VLCC Founder Vandana Luthra through video conferencing said obesity is a lifestyle related disease, which concern almost everyone. “We support the determination of people to lead a healthy lifestyle.BMI is one of the important serving tool of health assessment”, she added.
Luthra further said obesity and overweight is a national epidemic and a growing contributor to some of the leading causes of death including heart disease, stroke and diabetes. She said it is not just a problem of affluent countries- the effect is being seen globally, even in emerging countries.  
Dr Veena Aggarwal, Head of Research and Development and Technical Services, VLCC Health Care Limited said, “The old parameter like BMI and Waist circumference needs to be relooked.  A body composition analysis, which indicates the ratio of fat mass visa-a-vis muscle mass is more important.” 
>Area Technical Head Ashwinder said, “At VLCC we have scientific approach to weight loss , so our clients not only have fitter body but are also medically fit therefore lifestyle modification can bring Ludhianvis a disease free body for a happy stress free life.” She revealed that 47 per cent more people in urban areas compared to rural areas are suffering from problem of obesity and majority of them are women.  She said even children suffer from obesity in Ludhiana and other parts of the country, and added health problems, poor lifestyle and overeating are some of the major reasons for the same. She said even mothers play a key role by forcing their children to overeat due to a great love and affection, which causes problem of obesity among children. 
Center Head Khushbu Khurana said obesity is a silent killer and “we need to come together to eradicate it and promote a good health and well being”.
Assistant Center Head Surbhi Arora said, “We lead the effort with a series of initiatives that include public service messages using health camps, workshops, mass media and knowledge papers.”
