One succumbs to injuries; Death toll risen to 3

Ludhiana, October 6, 2012: A seriously injured has succumbed to his injuries in the local Apollo Hospital.

He was among the six persons injured in a scrap dealer’s shop, near Samrala Chowk here this afternoon.

As a result, the death toll has risen to three.

According to the police, the incident occurred at around 12-15 p.m. in the premises of MS Iron Store.

The incident occurred when the workers were segregating the scrap that is said to have arrived from Gulf countries, said the sources.

Police have identified the deceased as Balvir Singh and Salig Ram. The third deceased is still unidentified.

The injured have been identified as Sant Ram, Chhotu Ram, Mujibal and Mukesh. All of them are undergoing treatment at Apollo Hospital, Ludhiana.

Another injured is undergoing treatment at CMCH, Ludhiana.

Police said the preliminary investigations reveal that the scrap carried some explosive substance. As a result, the blast took place.
