Jalandhar, July 3, 2014: Mewling and puking in the nurses arms a newly born girl child aged 2 days only in a hospital was given birth by Raj Rani at a Hospital at Phagwara, was refereed to the Kidny Hospital & Lifeline Medical Institutions, Jalandhar with her complete food pipe in the chest blocked and the lower end of the food pipe was connected to the wind pipe, which is a life-threatening abnormality, with critical condition on June 25 for surgery.
This was stated by Dr Devender K.Panwar (Neonatal & Paediatric Surgeon) at a press conference at Punjab Press Club, Jalandher on Wednesday. He said the girl child was referred within 48 hours having 2.5 kg weight.
Dr. Panwar said, “So far this surgery was being done with the open technique but the same was conducted for the first time  Laproscopically in the Doaba region. The surgery took around two and a half hours. The patient recovered fully and is being discharged on Wednesday only."
Panwar said till date, the laparoscopic procedure was the norm for adult patients only. This is the first time that the same has been done on an infant. We, at Kidney Hospital & Lifeline Medical Institutions had been conducting laproscopic surgery in pediatric cases only. Panwar said, however this is for the first time that this type of operation has been performed on a newborn.
A knowledgeable presentation about the surgery was also given during the press conference.
