Unique initiative to curb stubble burning: Sukhbir Agro Energy to purchase stubble, farmers will earn extra income upto Rs.2000 per acre
Ferozepur, September 19, 2019: District Administration Ferozepur and Sukhbir Agro Energy Limited have jointly come up with a unique solution to curb stubble burning as the firm will purchase stubble from the farmers and will pay a handsome amount of Rs.130 per quintal. Divulging the details, Deputy Commissioner Ferozepur Chander Gaind said that with this offer the farmers will be able to make an extra income of Rs.2000 per acre. Gaind said that the unit is situated at village Hukumat Singh Wala on Ferozepur-Moga road and can generate 18 Mega Watts electricity and requires massive stock of stubble for this purpose. Having attended the meeting with the representatives of the company, the deputy commissioner said that this offer can transform the current stubble burning scenario into a win-win situation to the farmers as there is a production of 20 to 25 quintal stubble per acre, which can yield an extra income of Rs. 2000 to farmers besides curbing pollution phenomena in the state. The owners of the company Jasbir Singh Aawla, Ravinder Singh Aawla, and Sukhbir Singh Aawla informed the deputy commissioner that no farmer will be refused from purchasing the stubble and the payment will be credited into the bank accounts of the farmers. They further added that the farmers of other districts would also be welcome in their company and exhorted farmers to bring as much as stubble is possible. They said that the move is aimed at preserving our environment by deterring the practice of stubble burning.
