Chandigarh, September 23, 2014: On coming World Tourism Day (September 27), Sarbananda Sonowal, Union Minister of State for Sports, Youth, Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, will be presenting this year’s ‘Peace Awards’ to five distinguished teachers of tricity at a welcome cultural evening in the honour of international delegates from over 40 countries of the world reaching here to participate in the 9th International Youth Peace Fest-IYPF 2014. Kirron Kher, MP will preside over the event.
This formal programme will be organized at KB DAV-7, by Yuvsatta, Rajiv Gandhi National Institute of Youth Development, KB DAV Sr. Sec. Public School, State Cell-NSS and Dr. GC Mishra Memorial Educational and Charitable Trust, Chandigarh.
Pramod Sharma, Coordinator, Yuvsatta shared that now from last seven years they’re annually presenting ‘Peace Awards’ to distinguished teachers of tricity who had done the most in inculcating the seeds of service, nonviolence and love for humanity in young minds. Plus the annual International Youth Peace Fest which they started nine years back with just 14 students from Pakistan will this year witness active and vibrant participation of not only young delegates from over 40 countries of the world.
Pramod further added that this year many national and international distinguished luminaries will also be interacting with the young change makers like Prof. Kaptan Singh Solanki, Governor, Haryanawho’ll be inaugurating a ‘Youth SAARC Leadership Summit’ during the event, Dr. SN Subba Rao-the living spirit of Mahatma Gandhi and internationally acclaimed youth motivator, Pawan Kumar Bansal, former Union Cabinet Minister, Mukesh Agnihotri, Industries Minister, Himachal Pradesh, Dr. Markandey Rai, Special Youth Advisor, UN-Habitat, Dr. Hasmukh Purshottam Dawda, Ambassador for Peace & Visionary of Uganda, Sminu Jindal, Founder Svayam & MD, Jindal Saw Limited, Br. Indra Udayanaof Ashram Gandhi Puri, Bali, Indonesia, Vijay Vardhan, Addl. And the star inspiring event of this year’s IYPF 2014 is going to be a 7 kms. long ‘Human chain & Candle light Vigil’, in which thousands of NSS Volunteers along with international delegates of IYPF 2014 will participate on the eve of Gandhi Jayanti i.e. October 1, 2014. And the chain to promote ‘Rights & Dignity of Girls & Women’, will start from main gate of PGI will go up to Press chowk and cover all sides of Sector 17. IYPF is an amalgam of a week of inspirational peace-talks, creative workshops, cooperative-games, action based activities, volunteer action, building cross-cultural relationships, cultural festivities and neigbourhood walks which starts every year on September 27 and culminates on Gandhi Jayanti i.e. October 2, 2014.
