UHF students bag prizes in International Conferences
Two students of the biotechnology department of the Dr YS Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry, Nauni have bagged prizes in two separate international conferences held at Guwahati recently. Vishal Sharma, a doctoral student of the university bagged the prize for the Best Interactive Poster at the 'International Conference on Next Generation Plant Production and Bioresources Utilization Technologies’ organized by International Plant Propagation Society and IIT Guwahati at its campus. The topic of his research was ‘An efficient method of in-vitro propagation and hardening of plum (Prunus salicina)'. The research was carried out under the DBT funded project 'Biotechnological interventions for the establishment of own-rooted progeny orchard of stone fruits’. The work was carried out under the supervision of Dr Manisha Thakur. Dr Arjun Chauhan who is working as a Project Assistant in the university bagged the award for Best Poster during the ‘International Conference on Trends in Plant Sciences and Agrobiotechnology- 2019’. The Plant Tissue Culture Association organized the conference at IIT Guwahati. The title of his research was ‘Double standard RNA based management of leaf blotch disease caused by Marssonia Coronaria in apple- a novel RNA interference approach’, which was carried under the supervision of Dr Manju Modgil. Dr HC Sharma, UHF Vice Chancellor; Dr JN Sharma, Director Research; Dr Rakesh Gupta, Dean College of Horticulture and Head Department of Biotechnology and other faculty congratulated the researchers on their achievement.
