A delegation of United Cycle and Parts Manufacturers Association (UCPMA), Ludhiana submits a memorandum to Avinash Joshi, Director, Ministry of Commerce and Darshan Singh, Joint Director of Foreign Trade.

Ludhiana, July 18, 2013: A delegation of United Cycle and Parts Manufacturers Association (UCPMA) had a meeting with Avinash Joshi, Director, Ministry of Commerce and Darshan Singh, Joint Director of Foreign Trade under the leadership of Gurmeet Singh Kular, president of the association to discuss regarding the problems being faced by the exporters in Free Trade Agreement (FTA).

In this connection a memorandum by the UCPMA was also submitted.

It was stated that due to some foreign exchange restrictions they are unable to export the bicycle directly to neighbouring countries such as Pakistan and this is because of the fact that this item has been included in negative list of Free Trade Agreement. The memorandum reads that the neighbouring countries import bicycles through the mediator countries; with the result the cycle is sold there at a price higher than Rs. 5,000.

The industrialists demanded that complete bicycle should be brought out of negative list, so that the industry may become competitive like other nations such as China. They felt that if this is done, then the country will generate more foreign exchange.

Sanjeev Pahwa MD of Ralson (India) Ltd and Rajeev Jain of R & R Bikes, were among those present.
