Talwandi Sabo February 8, 2014: Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal announced that under Agriculture Power Tube Wells Policy, power connections against all applications registered prior to year 2007 will be released within this month. Besides all other applicants registered afresh will be allotted tube well connections during the next six months as the state has become power surplus by with the commissioning of new power plants.
Addressing the villagers during sangat darshan at village Giana Badal said that it was SAD-BJP Government that had been clearing the pendency of about 75,000 tube well connections to the farmers whereas previous Congress Government never bothered to release even single connection. He said that he has already asked the PSPCL authorities to release the power connections to farmers having less than five acres land at the earliest besides optimum utilisation of all existing government tube wells installed for irrigation purposes. Badal said that the state was incurring an additional burden Rs 5000 crore per year for giving free power to the farmers but this facility would continue to provide relief to the farming community.
The Deputy CM further said that the state government has taken path breaking initiatives to ensure the well being of every strata of the society. Adding further he said that state government has started a number of pro-poor welfare schemes like Atta-Dal, Dr. Hargobind Khurana Scholarship, Mai Bhago scheme, Bhagat Puran Singh Sehat Bima and others to benefit the weaker and underprivileged sections of the society. He also informed that scholarship amounting to Rs 30,000 per annum would be disbursed to the students through e-transfer in their bank accounts.
Holding the UPA led government at center guilty of ruining the farmers of the state, he said that due to the exorbitant hike in agriculture inputs coupled with the non remunerative MSP, the peasantry of the state was on the verge of economic disaster. Deputy Chief Minister said that on one hand SAD-BJP government has started a number of welfare schemes for the well being of weaker and disadvantaged sections of the society and on the other the Congress has always misled them by fabricating the facts.
He also announced that from the next week the small and marginal farmers of the state would also get the benefit of revised Atta-Dal scheme and Punjab Government would provide wheat @ Rs. 1 per kg to more than 30 lakh beneficiaries.
He appealed the people to show the door to Congress in the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections for its anti-people policies. He said Narendra Modi could only run the country to fulfill the aspirations of the people and therefore NDA should be voted to power to ensure overall development of Punjab.
He also addressed sangat darshan programs at village Shiekhpura and Jogewala and distributed grants amounting to Rs. one crore eighty lac to the twelve gram panchayats for various development works. Among others present on the occasion included halqua incharge Balbir Singh Sidhu, SGPC member Mohan Singh Banghi, Deputy Commissioner Kamal Kishor Yadav and SSP Gurpreet Singh Bhullar.//punjab news live, punjab news online, punjab news, punjab news headlines, punjab breaking news, india news, punjab news, world news,
