Chandigarh, November 26, 2019: Punjab Panchayats and Rural Development Minister Mr Tript Rajinder Singh Bajwa today called upon the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee to allow every TV channel and radio station to telecast Gurbani live from the Golden Temple to take the message of Guru Nanak to every corner of the world.
In a statement, he said it was the responsibility of the SGPC managing the Golden Temple to spread the message of Gurbani free of any pecuniary encumbrances. He asserted Gurbani is Eternal Light and the Gurus have given the framework for the creation of ideal society and ideal human being. Moreover, the message is invaluable and for the entire humanity.
He said at the time when the world was celebrating 550th anniversary of Guru Nanak, the founder of the Sikh Faith, it was all the more imperative that arrangements should be made to take his teachings to every corner of the globe. He said the Gurus spread the message without any reservation or consideration but the live telecast had been confined to just one select channel that was against the teachings and spirit of Gurbani.
Mr Bajwa maintained that the Punjab Assembly at its special session dedicated to 550th anniversary celebrations on November 6 had adopted a unanimous resolution appealing to the SGPC to facilitate free signal to all the channels. The SGPC should take over the telecast itself and provide free signal to each and every channel willing to telecast the same under the prescribed framework and guidelines.
He made it clear that the SGPC had no right to either confine the transmission to only one channel or charge for the same.
He said the issue should be discussed, debated and decided upon tomorrow at the general house meeting of the SGPC that is a statutory body under the Sikh Gurdwara Act, 1925 in true democratic spirit, the democratic spirit that is at the core of the Sikh theology and philosophy.
