Ludhiana, September 27, 2017: A one-day training session on ‘Biomedical Waste Management’ was held today in Dumra Auditorium for nursing and para-medical staff of the hospital. The training was conducted by the visiting team members of United Nation Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and M.S.Ramaiah Medical College,Bangalore.

The training session was formally inaugurated by Secretary of DMCH Managing Society-Sh Prem Kumar Gupta along with Principal Dr Sandeep Puri and Dean Academics Dr Rajoo Singh Chhina. Also present on the occasion were Dr S Pruthvish, Dr Lalitha and Dr Chetna from M.S. Ramaiah Medical College,Bangalore.

Giving information, Dr Rajoo Singh Chhina, who is also State Technical Advisor appointed by UNIDO for the state of Punjab, said that proper management of Bio-medical wastes in hospitals and medical intuitions is of prime importance as lot many problems pertaining to hygiene and hospital-acquired infections can be solved if a institution focuses in proper disposal of bio-medical waste by segregating them into different categories and properly dispose them as per the prescribed guidelines.

Currently, UNIDO is running its training sessions for effectively management of Biomedical Waste in five states of India including Punjab, Gujrat, Orrisa, Maharashtra and Karnataka. In all the five states, UNIDO has selected 28 hospitals in each state for giving their doctors and staff proper training in effective management of Biomedical waste. In the state of Punjab, UNIDO is undertaking this project in collaboration with the help of Punjab Pollution Control Board.

Dr Rajoo Singh Chhina said that UNIDO has identified Ludhiana District as ‘Model District’ for imparting training in management of Bio-medical waste to other medical institutions of the state and DMCH, being the premier medical college of the regions has been identified as ‘Model Hospital’ for the state of Punjab.
