Ludhiana, October 25, 2017: Makhana is an organic, nutritional, non-cereal edible crop. Makhana is a good source of carbohydrate, protein and minerals. In recent years price of makhana has increased due to increase in demand from domestic as well as foreign markets. Makhana presently is processed by traditional method which is laborious, time, consuming and causes injuries to the processor’s hands as it involves handling of hot roasted nuts manually. Keeping in view the need of farmers ICAR-CIPHET Ludhiana has developed makhana processing plant. Four farmers from Saharsa, Bihar approached ICAR-CIPHET for training on operation of makhana processing machines. Dr. R.K. Vishwakarma, Sr. Scientist & Dr. Ranjeet Singh, Sr. Scientist have imparted hands on training to farmers from 22-24 October 2017 and awarded training certificate to trainees on successful completion of the training.
