Training Course For KVK Home Scientists Begins At PAU

Ludhiana, December 7, 2015: A five-day training course on “Value Addition to Agricultural Products and Agricultural Bi-Products through Utility and Decorative Articles” began at the Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) today. The home scientists and demonstrators from Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs) are participating in the course.
Dr R.S. Sidhu, Director of Extension Education, said the trainees will be imparted practical training in the preparation of wall plates using weeds, decorative articles using dried flowers and foliage, utility articles using pressed flowers, bi-products from cellulosic hosiery waste, and in the preparation of eco-holi colours. Besides, experts will give demonstrations on value addition to herbs through the preparation of herbal oil. Dr Sidhu further said the trainees will also be informed about income generation through the management of family resources and value addition to agro-wastes.
Meanwhile, a two-day training course on “Use, Cleaning and Care of Household Appliances” will be conducted on December 17 and 18. The farm women and rural youth will be given hands-on-training in cooking of fermented foods and baking of cakes in microwave; and use, care and maintenance of cooking and baking appliances. In addition, the trainees will be educated about hidden areas of pathogens in household items and their control measures. The trainees will also receive training in use, care and maintenance of washing machine, geyser, refrigerator and iron.
