TRAINING COURSE ON BEE KEEPING ORGAINIZED AT PAU

Ludhiana, January 18, 2019: The Department of Entomology, Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana, organized an RKVY sponsored 5-days ‘Basic Beekeeping Training Course for Beginners’ specifically for Schedule Castes’ farmers at village Bundala, District Jalandhar from January 14-18, 2019. Dr Pardeep Kumar Chhuneja, Director of the Course and Head, Department of Entomology shared that the present basic beekeeping training course was aimed at providing livelihood to the underprivileged and unemployed rural youth of the State, thus enabling them to earn a decent livelihood.
According to Dr Chhuneja, the trainees were imparted practical knowledge on various aspects of beekeeping through lectures, demonstrations and hands-on practice on hive and apicultural equipment, seasonal bee husbandry practices, management of bee enemies and diseases, swarming, robbing and queenlessness problems in honey bee colonies; their remedies, colony multiplication, and honey and beeswax extraction followed by post-harvest handling. Out of a total of 27 trainees, 26 were women. The next basic beekeeping training course for beginners will be organized under NHM at PAU, Ludhiana from January 28 to February 01, 2019 which will be open for all categories.
