TRAINING CAMP ON PADDY STRAW MANAGEMENT

Ludhiana, November 20, 2017: Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Budh Singh Wala, Moga organized a training camp on paddy straw management under NABARD funded project “Enhancing diffusion of paddy straw management technologies in Punjab” In this event, farmers were made aware regarding the different technologies for paddy straw management. More than 40 farmers had participated in this event.
During the camp Dr.Amandeep Singh Brar, Deputy Director, KVK Moga explained about the ill effects of paddy straw burning and benefits of non-burning of paddy straw. He advised participants to adopt the Punjab Agricultural University recommended technologies to manage the paddy straw. He also told about the facilities available at KVK Moga for the farming community. Dr.Dhermider Singh, Assistant Extension Specialist, PAU Ludhiana motivate the farmers to use the university recommendations to increase their profits. He explained about the project on paddy straw management and benefits of in-situ management of paddy straw. Mr. Narinder Kumar, DDM, NABARD was also present during the event. He explained various facilities, given by the NABARD for the farming community, to the participant.

On this occasion Er. Ankit Sharma, Assistant Professor (Agril. Engg.), KVK Moga, explained about various options available for the management of paddy straw for wheat sowing and explained the economic benefits of sowing wheat under zero till technology. Dr. Jasvir Singh Gill, Assistant Agronomist, PAU Ludhiana, explained the PAU happy seeder technology to the participant. He told that by using this technology farmer can timely sow the wheat crop in paddy field without removing paddy straw. He also told about the benefits of using this technology such as reduction in use of weedicides, improvement in soil health and field conditions, saving in fuel and energy etc. Filed demonstration of the use of PAU Happy Seeder was also conducted on this occasion.
S. Jaideep Singh Sadda Singh Wala, S. Gurpreet Singh Saffuwala, S. Sukhbir Singh, S. Mandeep Singh and S. Jaspreet Singh Budh Singh Wala, S. Baljit Singh and S. Malkeet Singh Jhandewala, S. Jaspal Singh Puranewala, S. Ranjit Singh Kookri Heran, S. Jagjit Singh, S. Harbans Singh Sandhuawala, S. Shavinder Singh Ramuwala, S. Tejinder Singh Bir Charik, S. Sukhbir Singh Charik, S. Gurdev Singh Jai Singh Wala etc were present during the training camp. Extension literature regarding the technologies explained, ill effects of straw burning and benefits of non-burning of paddy straw were also distributed to the participants.
