Chandigarh, October 20, 2015: Under the 'Phulkari' project, the Enactus team of Dr SS Bhatnagar University Institute of Chemical Engineering & Technology (UICET), Panjab University (PU), showcased the traditional artwork of Punjab in the Dillihaat exhibition at Pitampura, Delhi.
During the three day exhibition, the stalls at Dillihaat provided new ways to the craftsmen and artisans to exhibit their handicrafts and earn from it. DilliHaat is a potpourri of urban contemporary lifestyle with a touch of rural culture ambience. The items on sale in the exhibition included the finest handicrafts and artwork such as Phulkari hand crafted dupattas, multi-purpose folders, suits, bedsheets, pillow covers and Punjabi jootis (handcrafted mojari style footwear).
The Enactus team not only made an effort to open new roads for craftsmen and artisans to come out of their towns and villages and showcase their talent and skill but also glorified the Indian culture. This way, the artisans were able to place their product and sell them directly to the customer, without the involvement of middlemen to share profits. This was a platform to raise funds as well as act as a flagship for Phulkari artisans.
The exhibition, which concluded on Sunday, proved to be a great success with hundreds of people from different corners of the country appreciating the beautiful art. The stall managed to attract quite a crowd due to its authenticity of handicrafts and unique designs.
