Ludhiana, May 6, 2013: A delegation of Punjab Pradesh Beopar Mandal, led by state general secretary Sunil Mehra, secretary Mohinder Aggarwal and district president Kasturi Lal Mittal on Monday met Tejvir Singh Sidhu, AETC, Ludhiana-I, and discussed certain problems being faced by the local traders’ community.

Aggarwal told that they apprised the AETC, Ludhiana-I that fifty per cent of the hosiery production was purchased by Tibetan Community. The officer was apprised these hosiery goods were manufactured by small-scale hosiery units. These goods were sold without bills to the buyers belonging to Tibetan Community.

The officer was also informed that members of Tibetan Community usually purchase hosiery goods from more than a hosiery manufacturer and then they pack in bags for carrying them to their destinations. The delegation suggested that the sales tax department might set up a cash counter at the local railway station where local sales tax could be collected and receipts could be given to members of Tibetan Community.  In this manner, tax evasion could be checked.

In reply, the AETC assured that he would take up this matter with his seniors to get the suggestion implemented in the near future, said Aggarwal.

On the issue of alleged harassment by taxation officials in the local markets, the AETC asked the delegates to take his cell number and call him at any time if any official was found harassing any trader in his area, said Aggarwal. He added if they traders observed that any fake person was visiting them claiming to be an official of the department then they should ask him to show his I-card. The AETC said he could also be informed in this regard.

Aggarwal said the AETC assured them that he would keep on holding meetings and interactions with them from time to time, to resolve their problems and grievances, if any. He said the officer also said the department would appreciate the traders who would keep on paying more tax on annual basis in the future.

Regarding the demand made by traders’ delegation that he should also increase day for issuance of c form from twice to thrice a week, said Aggarwal, adding the delegates apprised that AETC –II had already assured to implement their demand. The AETC I assured them that he would make an announcement in this regard within a couple of days, Aggarwal revealed.

The delegation was comprised of Gurcharan Singh, Ashwani Kharbanda, Parveen Sharma, Ajinder Singh Sodhi, Kamal Gupta and Dr. Harish Kapila.
