New Delhi, January 29, 2013: Taking the issue of FDI in Retail as a top priority on its agenda and to launch an aggressive nationwide campaign under the banner of "Khudra FDI Virodhi Rashtriya Morcha", the national core committee of the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) is holding its important and crucial meeting on forthcoming 3rd February at Mumbai which will be attended by selected prominent trade leaders of different states.

Since the Morcha has announced holding of a massive "Save Retail Democracy Rally" on March 7 at New Delhi, the meeting of trade leaders assumes much significance since they are scheduled to finalise their aggressive plan of nationwide agitation till March 7. A specially designed publicity campaign will also be unveiled at the meeting which will be chaired by CAIT National President B. C. Bhartia of Nagpur.
CAIT National Secretary General Praveen Khandelwal today informed at New Delhi that in this series a large meeting of traders, hawkers, labourers and other will also be held on January 31 at APMC campus at Navi Mumbai which will be addressed by Senior CPI and Trade Union Leader Gurudas Das Gupta beside Khandelwal and CAIT National Secretary Ramesh Khanna will also be present. The Sammelan will be chaired by CAIT Maharashtra Chapter President Kirti Rana.

Meanwhile, the CAIT has sought meeting with Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithvi Raj Chavhan, Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar and Shiv Sena Superemo Uddhav Thackrey  on this issue.

CAIT Maharashtra Chapter Secretary Mahesh Bakhai told that on February 3 itself prior to national core committee meeting a State level Convention of Trade Leaders from all districts of Maharashtra will be held which will deliberate on burning issue of LBT and Food Safety and Standards Act and will formulate future strategy.
Khandelwal also said that it is most deplorable that the Union Government while by passing the legislative process notified the FDI in Retail policy in great haste in order to provide large benefits to global retailers. Since beginning of the issue, the Government is banking upon wrong facts and figures which are subject to challenge. Such an attitude from a government of the people and for the people has come under serious doubts. The entire nation is in great anger and to depict their resentment, a massive rally is being organised on March 7 at New Delhi which will be attended by traders, farmers, small industries, hawkers, consumers, transporters and other sections of retail trade.

“We have also invited leaders of all prominent political parties to participate in the rally”, said Khandelwal.
