2 lakh registrations so far for Indo-Pak T 20 clash
Dharamsala, March 2, 2016: “The Police in Dharamsala is so far handling the security for world cup teams, excellently,” said Dr M V Sridhar, Tournament Director IC WT20 in Dharamsala on Wednesday. Sridhar started confirming the arrangements made at the different centers from Dharamsala today, and shall be moving out to Mohali to visit that centre tomorrow. He said, “I was travelling with the Hong Kong team in the same plane and after landing at the Dharamsala airport I kept on following the bus of the team up to the Hotel, and found the police control more than excellent. The city has received two teams in past too, but this time four teams shall be staying at the same tome in the city.”
Sridhar said that he was not recognized by the staff of HPCA in the airport, that’s why he was able to see the arrangements of the state police from a distance as a general citizen. He further said, “And when I was going to enter the stadium, the police kept me away,(as no identification ICC card was with me), till I was cleared by the security staff after consultation with HPCA staff.” He said this is the best example of security cover being provided by the Himachal police. He said, “I can easily see the energy being forced in to make the show a success.” He said if auctioned every association could have gone for Indo-Pak match, but HPCA got it, the best chance for public of the area to see this thriller.’
He said that getting world cup games in Dharamsala HP is in the lime light of the world. Like in Bangladesh World Cup is being organized in 2-3 centers, but the beauty of the BCCI is that all the zones of India are associated as organizing centers. Sridhar said that our all the eight world cup centers are International match venues, so there is no problem for organizers. We are focusing on the comfort of the movement of the teams as 16 men and 10 women teams shall be cutting across the country during the span of just 25 days, said Sridhar. He said that in earlier world cups there were only 29 matches but in this 56 matches are being played.
While talking exclusively to this correspondent over the ongoing political tussle over the Indo-Pak high voltage match to be played here on 19th of this month, where the Himachal government has shown its inability of providing security to teams as the area is sensitive because of the martyrs, who laid their lives fighting against Pak supported militants, Sridhar reacted very humbly. He said, “I know the anguish is there, but sport is the only way where people could come together. India –Pak played over the years in different parts of the country including Dharamsala, where Pak played earlier too. I appeal every one, Dharamsala had one of the most important match of the world, and seeing the importance ICC has accorded, I appeal to HP Government, police and public not to mix spots with politics. Also see the arrangements already done and just singling out a match out of ten it might not be fare to raise voice against it. Please let this match to be played.”
He said Dharamsala has more than 2 lakh registrations of ticket seekers for Indo Pak match till date, which is the highest in any centre. He said that so many fans are coming to watch each game in India as per the booking of the online tickets 500 plus fans are coming for each match from South Africa and similar is the condition for other countries too.
