Dharamsala, May 6, 2013: Since the inception of Department of Tourism and Travel Studies under the aegis of Central University of Himachal Pradesh here, in 2010, it has organised various workshops, events and series of guest lecturers in order to develop the interpersonal and professional skills among the students and keep them aware about the current trends and practices in the industry.
On Monday, Professor Dr. Deepak Raj Gupta, Director, School of Hospitality and Tourism Management, Jammu University was invited at Dharamsala campus of Central University to deliver a lecture on “contemporary issues in tourism”.
Professor Gupta said, “Tourism is a thread which connects different people and cultures, but more than that, tourism is about experience. In this world of fast changing cultural trends and varied guest interest, it’s really challenging to attain complete guest satisfaction through innovative techniques.”
Dr. DR Gupta also shared his valuable experiences concerning various aspects of tourism like infrastructural development, employment opportunities, marketing techniques and their beneficiary effects. He also emphasised on the consumer’s perception about the “materialistic aspect” of tourism products, individual and community behaviour towards the tourists and the strategic steps needed to be implemented to achieve a higher success rate as far as tourism entrepreneurship is concerned.
