Three Week Special Winter School concluded at GNDU

Amritsar, January 2, 2015:  A “Three Week Special Winter School" concluded here on Thursday at Academic Staff College of the Guru Nanak Dev University. As many as 24 teachers from a wide spectrum of disciplines from across the country participated.

N.S.Mavi, Principal-cum-Professor of Education, S.T.C.College of Education, Kurukshetra and the founder Director of the UGC-Academic Staff College of the University presided over the valedictory session. Prof Mavi in his valedictory address acknowledged the contribution of the Academic Staff Colleges in imparting the training to the teachers of higher education.

Talking about the theme of the course "Environment and Health", he emphasised that hundred percent literacy along with the enactment followed by subsequent enforcement of the laws are ones of the prerequisites for the preservation of pollution free environment. The changing dietary habits  of the masses are adversely affecting the health, he added. The teachers of today have to rise to the occasion and to enlighten the society in tackling both these issues. He concluded his address by stressing on the establishment of Extension Education Departments of the reputed institutes in the universities.

Saroj Arora, Course Coordinator briefly outlined the activities of the course. Prof. Avinash Nagpal, Director, Academic Staff College introduced the Chief Guest to the audience. She felicitated the participants on the successful completion of the course and said that the real voyage had commenced now for them as it was their moral duty to disseminate the knowledge further to their students.

The participants of the course profusely thanked the entire team of the Academic Staff College for this endeavour and expressed their deep satisfaction over the smooth conduct of the course. Earlier Mavi was extended a floral welcome by Avinash Kaur Nagpal,  Saroj Arora and Mohan Kumar. In the end, the certificates were given away to the participants. Prof. Renu Bhardwaj, Dr. Satwinderjeet Kaur, Adarshpal Vig from the Department of Botanical & Environmental Sciences also graced the occasion. Dr. Satwinderjeet Kaur formally proposed the vote of thanks.
