Ludhiana, November 9, 2013: The Third Edition of All India Sahibzada Ajit Singh Hockey Champion Trophy 2013 will be organised by Sports Council of Ludhiana from December 17-23, at Olympian Pirthipal Singh Hockey Stadium, Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana (Punjab).
In this week long Hockey extravaganza, eight national teams would compete against each other in the men section and four in women section. This time, to promote hockey at grass root level, there has been a new addition where four hockey academies would be participating amongst each other.
Addressing the press conference today, Davinder Singh Kehal, president, Sports Council of Ludhiana, added that the participating teams from men section are Air India Mumbai, BPCL, ONGC, Indian Army, Punjab National Bank, Punjab & Sindh Bank, Indian Overseas Bank and CRPF. “The participating hockey academies include Surjit Academy Jalandhar,  Namdhari Academy, Sonipat Academy and Punjab & Sindh Bank Academy,” Kehal informed.
Bhupinder Singh Bhinda, chairman, Sports Council of Ludhiana said that the teams from women section include Chandigarh XI, Gwalior XI, Sonipat XI and Western Railways. “All the matches would be played under floodlights, which would add charm to the visitors,” Bhinda informed.
Prominent among those present during the press conference included patron Prof Gurbhajan Gill, Pirthepal Singh Batala, Pavittar Singh Grewal, Ajaypal Singh Poonia, Gurpreet Singh, Sukhwinder Singh Railway, Indermohan Singh Kadian, Bhupinder Singh Dimple, Maninderpal Singh Grewal, Bittu Grewal, Bhutto Gill, Sukhwinder Singh Ghona, Kanwaljit Singh Shankar, Dr Darshan Bari, besides others.
