Ferozepur, September 18, 2014: Sohan Singh Thandal, Jail & Tourism and Stationary and Printing Minister, Punjab today paid a visit to land of martyr Ferozepur and checked the arrangement in Central Jail. He was accompanied by Joginder Singh Jindu, MLA, Ferozepur (Rural), DPS Kharbanda, Deputy Commissioner, Ferozepur, Sandip Singh Gera, SDM, Ferozepur, Sukhwant Singh Gill, SSP, Ferozepur, S S Gill, Superintendent, Central Jail, Sukhmander Singh, Assistant Commissioner and Sukhpal Singh Nannu, Ex-MLA.
The minister thoroughly checked the arrangements of food given to the inmates. He said the Punjab government has mooted a project to restart the small industries in jail campus to boost the financial condition of jail inmates and to channelise their mind in a positive direction. He said the government has also planned to start a Food Processing Unit in the jails.
Giving example of Ludhiana Central Jail, he said that one such project is already running successfully. He also paid a visit to drug de-addiction centre located inside the jail. He also had chitchat with female inmates of the jail and their wards. He instructed the jail authorities to provide best possible facilities to the female inmates and their children.
Earlier, the Cabinet Minister also paid a visit to Hussainiwala to pay obeisance to the martyr Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev. He said that government shall boost Hussainiwala Memorial as a major tourist spot as thousands of people converge at Hussainiwala every year to pay obeisance to great martyrs.
While addressing to media persons briefly he said that the relocation project of Ferozepur Central Jail will be completed soon. Talking on drugs issue, he said that anyone found guilty and involved in such cases, will not be spared.
