Textile Units’ workers seek hike in salary and piece rate

Ludhiana, August 19, 2012:  A large number of textile workers under the banner of Textile Mazdoor Union participated in `mazdoor panchayat’ held in the PUDA Grounds here today.

Addressing the gathering, the union president Rajwinder and other leaders including Taj Mohammad, Ghanshyam and Prem Nath  regretted that there had been steep rise in the prices of essential commodities in the recent past but employers of local textile units were not giving any hike in salary and piece rate to their respective workers. As a result, the workers were facing difficulties.

They said even labour laws were not being implemented completely, resulting to which the workers were not getting the facilities of I-car, bonus, leaves, PF and so on.

They warned to further intensify the struggle if nothing concrete was done in this regard in the future. The gathering also decided to prepare a memorandum and submit it to local Labour Department authorities.
